Summer Closures

For the rest of the summer we will only be running 2 salsa nights per week…

  • Mondays (Cuban style) at the 2 Brewers in Chelmsford, and
  • Tuesdays (NY Style) at Las Iguanas, Lakeside

As many of you know, we have had to switch Thursday nights at Las Iguanas from Cuban & Rueda to New York style salsa classes & Club.

Unfortunately most of our Thursday regulars are not interested in New York style salsa, and therefore will not continue coming, so we will have to start from scratch to build the night back up again with a brand new crowd…

However, the summer holiday season is not the right time to try that!

So, I have decided to work hard at promoting the night for a September relaunch, and if all goes well, we will hopefully get Thursdays off to a flying start!

Wednesdays in Basildon have been a bit tricky, as we can only have the room from 8:30pm, and can only squeeze in 2 groups… so I can’t provide a full range of levels.

I am therefore looking at the possibility of switching to another night when we can have the venue all evening, and possibly even have more space… I will keep you posted.

Once again, there is little point in trying to launch a new night during the summer, so we will be aiming for the beginning of September as with Thursdays.

In the meantime, keep dancing (Mondays & Tuesdays!), and I’ll see you on the dance floor!

Changes to Salsa Classes at Las Iguanas

It makes me very sad to have to announce that this week was our last Cuban Salsa night at Las Iguanas, Lakeside.

Due to changes made to the set-up and use of the upstairs restaurant area at Las Iguanas, it is no longer possible to fit in our regular numbers of students and classes on a Thursday night, teaching Cuban Salsa and La Rueda.

This makes me very sad, as I spent a lot of time and effort to building up the number and standard of our students to warrant bringing in a teacher like Rafael Del Busto, and you guys made me very proud with positive feedback I got from Rafael when he started teaching at Las Iguanas.

Rather than lose the night altogether, I have decided to make Thursdays the same format as Tuesdays, and teach New York Style Salsa, Cha cha cha, and Bachata.

This will mean almost starting from scratch, as many of you who enjoyed the Cuban Salsa nights are not big fans of Cross Body Salsa, and will therefore no longer turn up on a Thursday evening…

Another reason to feel sad, as I will miss many of you!

Dealing with what has heppened at Las Iguanas is fairly straight forward. What is not so easy, is figuring out how to replace our lost Cuban Salsa night, so that those of you who are passionate about Cuban Salsa & Rueda don’t lose out.

I would like to continue working with Rafael, but seeing as he has recently moved to Wimbledon it is unlikely he would want to continue making the arduous journey to & from Essex every week for much longer… so I am going to see if I can find a venue in East London that at least some of you should be able to get to.

I am also going to try and find a suitable venue in Essex that the rest of you can get to, but it will have to be another night… Probably Wednesday. However, this will not happen overnight, so I ask you to please be patient, and I will let you know as soon as I have something arranged.

In the meantime, keep dancing, and I hope to have some better news to share with you in the near future.

Charity Salsa Event tonight at Las Iguanas

Just a quick message to remind you that there is a Salsa Party tonight at Las Iguanas to raise money for a local (Thurrock) Youth support group.

Click here to read full details…

I have had a few people say they would love to come, but it’s either a bit too early, or they can’t afford the £20 at the moment…

So, I have spoken to the event organizer and been given the green light to invite you to come down after 9pm to join in the party, which goes on till after midnight (probably 1am).

Although there will be no compulsory entrance fee, I would request that you make a donation of £5 to the charity.

I know that for some of you this is too short notice, and I apologise, but as I am not the event organizer, I can only pass on information once I receive it.

Those of you who can make it, please make the effort as it is all in a good cause!

I hope to see you tonight.

Salsa Charity Event at Las Iguanas, Lakeside

I have been asked to host a Charity Salsa Night at Las Iguanas, Lakeside on Friday 25th June on behalf of a local Thurrock Youth Support Group, who provide life coaching and support for teenagers. I have included more information at the end of this post…

The evening starts at 7:30pm with a Buffet meal, followed by a Beginner Salsa Class at 9pm (ish), and then a Salsa Disco till late, and will cost just £20, with £5 going to the charity.

Sounds like a great excuse for a party if you ask me!

When I was asked to do it by Susanna, she was unsure of how many people she would be able to get to attend, so I asked if I could promote it to Salsa SOS club members… to which she kindly said yes!

It has been ages since we have had a good party, and I can’t think of a better reason than to raise money for such a worthwhile cause… so please make the effort and come along, and even if YOU can’t make it, please make sure you share this information with all your salsa friends, and help make this a successful event.

If enough of you are interested (20+)…

I am prepared to turn up an hour early and provide you guys with an Intermediate salsa (or Rueda) class, at no extra charge, before we sit down for the meal. So get sharing! :-)

To confirm your place, you need to pay me at one of our club nights, and I will need full payment from you in advance… Ideally by Wednesday next week at the latest, to give Las Iguanas early enough notice of the likely numbers they will need to cater for.

The last event of this kind we held at Las Iguanas was our Christmas dinner & dance (organized by Kristie), and it sold out very quickly. Let’s see if we can make this event equally successful.

Thanks in advance for your support.

Stuart

What Can Salsa Dancing Do for You?

Salsa dancing isn’t exactly the easiest skill in the world to learn, and it can take a lot of time and effort to get even reasonably proficient, especially for men. There is the likelihood of looking or feeling foolish, you have to interact with people you don’t know, and you have to pay for the privilage (ouch!).

So, why do so many people of all ages and backgrounds take up Salsa Dancing? An even bigger question is… Why do such a high percentage stick with it for so long, and make it the focal point of their Social Life?

The following are a few of the main benefits most people appear to gain learning to Dance Salsa! Read the rest of this entry »
